The wind I wrote about in last week's report has gone and the weather has been near perfect this past week. The days are running in the mid eighties, while the nights are cool and pleasant. This is the Baja's best time of year for weather and scenery. The country side is a resplendent green, the cactus and brush decorated in flowers.
The fishing fleet is scattering to all parts to find fish. Reports of sailfish are coming down from the ocho ocho, big tuna from the Gordo Banks, everything with the porpoise twenty miles straight out. The off shore catch is far from wide open but is consistent and varied. Wahoo continue to be a pleasant surprise for some anglers along with some good pargo fishing in the rocks.
Our last off shore day was with Jack Bremer who caught some nice dorados. We headed inshore at the end of the day and got on a good pargo and Jack bite just off of the point at Punta Colorada.
Most of our guide trips this past were either from the beach or on kayaks and the fishing was excellent. Our fly fishers caught plenty of roosters, sierra, pargo, lady fish and jacks. The bait and switch method using a hookless plug worked well for Tom Pianko at the old fish camp. The biggest challenge was keeping the roosters from grabbing the plug and then refusing to let go. The teasing game pretty much ended each time an aggressive rooster tried to swim off with the teaser clamped in its mouth.
